The City of Rensselaer encourages all of our citizens to recycle whenever possible. The recycling department provides at no cost a curbside recycle service to each resident. The City of Rensselaer has established a schedule that provides curbside recycle pick up twice per month for each area. The city is separated into five sections for recycling pickup and each section is color coded. If you live in the Northwest part of the city, you are considered the "green" route and are picked up the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. The northeast section of the city is considered the "blue" section and is picked up the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. The southeast section of the city is considered the "yellow" section and are picked up the 1st and 3rd Wednesday's of each month and the southwest section is considered the "pink" section and is picked up the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. Houston Subdivision is picked up the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month and is considered the "white" section. The color codes may sound confusing but are very helpful to determine what day your recycle schedule will fall on. The schedule for each year is provided to each resident in their utility bill and mailed at the last billing of the calendar year. The main drop off for recycling is located at 820 E Walnut Street and open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm and each Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm. Recycle bins are also available for pick up at the main drop off at no cost to the resident.
If you need a recycle schedule please contact the recycling department and one will be provided to you. A 2009 recycle map has been provided for your viewing if needed.
