Clerk/Treasurer
The primary function of the Clerk-Treasurer, an elected official, is to serve as fiscal officer for the City of Rensselaer. The Clerk-Treasurer appoints deputies to serve in the capacity as the Clerk-Treasurer. There are currently two Deputy Clerk-Treasurers - Marcia Mathew and Linda DeMoss.
The Clerk-Treasurer's Office is responsible for receiving all money collected by utilities, building, police and cemetery departments in addition to state and county tax distributions. The employees audit and prepare A/P vouchers for payment and print checks once approved by Council. Other responsibilities include:
- Advertise for bids and other legal notices
- Preparation of C-TAR (annual financial report)
- Payroll, withholding, employee insurance and retirements
- Employee files and benefits
- Manages and reconciles 67 city funds and 6 bank accounts
- Budgets, tranfers and additional appropriations
- Secretary to Common Council and Board of Public Works
